In narratology, scholars investigate the shared techniques that writers use to create narratives and how these techniques affect the reading experience. In semiotics, both words and images are considered cultural codes, or signs, that a reader interprets to find meaning. Much of the scholarship is based on semiotics and narratology. In the field of comics studies, scholars put forth a variety of approaches that may be used to analyze comics. By giving each character a unique way of approaching his or her art, Mazzucchelli draws parallels to his own craft and the variety of ways it can be analyzed. Many of the characters are artists: Asterios is an architect, Hana makes sculptures, Willy Illium is a choreographer, and Kalvin Kohoutek composes music. Throughout the graphic novel, Mazzucchelli portrays each of his characters as possessing a unique outlook on the world. In order to set things right, he goes on a journey to try to change his way of perceiving things. Asterios’s choice to perceive everything through a lens that splits concepts into dualities leads to the end of his marriage and the loss of his job. In Asterios Polyp David Mazzucchelli explores the subject of human perception through his title character’s struggle to modify his outlook on the world.

Once, while hiking, she saw a snow-white buck which allowed her to follow it nearly half a mile. She loves to visit a friend's little cabin in the Point Reyes National Seashore area, which has lots of trees, lots of animals, lots of beaches to walk on, and lots of places to hike. She lives in the Bay Area of California, with a backyard that is full of flowers, which she adores, especially with many different shades of roses. SMITH, Lisa Jane Smith, is the New York Times #1 Bestselling author of The Vampire Diaries, The Secret Circle, The Forbidden Game, Dark Visions, Wildworld and Night World series. I have a new blog about my Vampire Diaries fanfic. Of course, the introductions are far from ending. And like The Infinity Saga before it, it will build from a phase of character introductions (the recently concluded Phase Four) to something full of war, dynasties, and secrets. For one thing, the three phases form the next Marvel epic: The Multiverse Saga. But with Marvel Studios’ presentation at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2022, the exact length and purpose of Phases Four, Five, and Six were revealed during a presentation notable for just how much information the often evasive Feige was willing to offer. Sometimes, he even reconsiders where they begin and end after the fact. Since Marvel Studios present Kevin Feige first introduced the notion of Phases to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, their purpose and length have always been mysterious. She expresses her love and isn’t afraid to give you her heart.ĭid you feel pressure coming into The Wife series? Some people call it crazy but I think it’s passion. She’s sweet and loving but she’s also reactive. I guess it was because I just loved Naledi so much. But I don't think I've ever been so nervous casting before. How did your casting process for The Wife go?Īs actors, this is what we do all the time: we audition. She’s very spicy and goes for everything and anything she wants. I've done some stage, some commercial work and other TV stuff. I started working in the industry professionally in 2018. We both care about the story and are looking forward to telling it. He's very kind and has been very helpful in assisting me with anything related to Naledi and Qhawe. Today is my first day on set but I’ve obviously interacted with Kwenzo and the chemistry is there. What has your connection with Kwenzo been like? Here's a fun Q&A session with Gaisang to find out more about her and her role. Over the years I’ve collected a handful of copies, and when I headed to Byron with a friend in November, I took it, promising I wouldn’t return to Bondi with a single page unread. One such book I did manage to tick of the list – and one that had been on my ever-growing reading pile ever since I first read Jeffrey Eugenides’ The Virgin Suicides when I lived in Los Angeles – was the author’s second book, and winner of the 2003 Pulitzer Prize, Middlesex. Alas, I wasn’t, and while I read just shy of 90 books in total, as I often lament, I wish I had been more particular in selecting the books I chose to read. It was something of an ambitious list – but one that I should – and could – have finished, had I been more diligent in my reading. Towards the end of 2022, I looked at a list I had made last January of all the books I wanted to finish before the year was out. |
